Both the Range Rover Sport and QX55 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Sport has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The QX55’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Range Rover Sport’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The QX55 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport’s rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Infiniti QX55 does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Both the Range Rover Sport and QX55 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Range Rover Sport has Rear Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The QX55’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

The Range Rover Sport’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The QX55 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the QX55 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport weighs 897 to 1955 pounds more than the Infiniti QX55. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Land Rover vehicles are better in initial quality than Infiniti vehicles. With 34 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Land Rover higher than Infiniti.

The Range Rover Sport P360’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 87 more horsepower (355 vs. 268) and 89 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Sport P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 127 more horsepower (395 vs. 268) and 126 lbs.-ft. more torque (406 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Sport P460e’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 186 more horsepower (454 vs. 268) and 207 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Sport P530’s standard 4.4 turbo V8 produces 255 more horsepower (523 vs. 268) and 273 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Sport SV’s standard 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 358 more horsepower (626 vs. 268) and 273 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

The Range Rover Sport can travel with zero emissions for 53 miles. The QX55 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Sport’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The QX55 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Range Rover Sport’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The QX55 doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Range Rover Sport P460e/P550e’s standard fuel tank has 2.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the QX55 (18.9 vs. 16 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Range Rover Sport’s standard fuel tank has 7.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the QX55 (23.8 vs. 16 gallons).

The Range Rover Sport’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The QX55 doesn’t offer launch control.

The Range Rover Sport SV offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The QX55 doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the Range Rover Sport has larger standard tires than the QX55 (275/50R21 vs. 255/45R20). The Range Rover Sport SV’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the QX55 (F:285/40R23 & R:305/35R23 vs. 255/45R20).

The Range Rover Sport SV’s 285/40R23 front and 305/35R23 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the QX55’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Sport has standard 21-inch wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the QX55. The Range Rover Sport offers optional 23-inch wheels.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the QX55; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/First Edition has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The QX55 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Range Rover Sport uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the QX55, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/First Edition offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Infiniti doesn’t offer an active suspension on the QX55.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The QX55’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover Sport’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The QX55 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Sport’s wheelbase is 7.8 inches longer than on the QX55 (118 inches vs. 110.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Range Rover Sport is 2.6 inches wider in the front and 3.3 inches wider in the rear than on the QX55.

The Range Rover Sport’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the QX55’s (57.7% to 42.3%). This gives the Range Rover Sport more stable handling and braking.

The Range Rover Sport SV handles at .90 G’s, while the QX55 Essential pulls only .87 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Range Rover Sport SV executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.1 seconds quicker than the QX55 Essential (24.9 seconds @ .79 average G’s vs. 27 seconds @ .65 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Sport has a 2.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the QX55 (11 vs. 8.6 inches), allowing the Range Rover Sport to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The design of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport amounts to more than styling. The Range Rover Sport has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is significantly lower than the QX55 (.35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Range Rover Sport get better fuel mileage.

The Range Rover Sport has 4.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the QX55 (105 vs. 100.2).

The Range Rover Sport has .7 inches more front legroom and 1.8 inches more rear headroom than the QX55.

The Range Rover Sport has a much larger cargo volume than the QX55 with its rear seat up (31.9 vs. 26.9 cubic feet).

The Range Rover Sport has a 7716 lbs. towing capacity. The QX55 has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Sport uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The QX55 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The engine in the Range Rover Sport is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the QX55. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the QX55, the Range Rover Sport has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The power windows standard on both the Range Rover Sport and the QX55 have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Range Rover Sport is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The QX55 prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The Range Rover Sport’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The QX55’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Sport to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The QX55 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Sport has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The QX55 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Range Rover Sport offers optional dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The QX55 doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Range Rover Sport to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The QX55 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Range Rover Sport’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The QX55 has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Land Rover Range Rover Sport and Infiniti QX55 offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The Range Rover Sport features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the QX55’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The Range Rover Sport has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The QX55 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the QX55 Essential/Sensory.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/SV has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the QX55.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The QX55 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Range Rover Sport’s optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The QX55 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Range Rover Sport third among large premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The QX55 isn’t in the top three.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport outsold the Infiniti QX55 by over six to one during 2024.
