Safety

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and the Q5 Sportback have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Land Rover vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. With 61 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Land Rover higher than Audi.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Land Rover vehicles are more reliable than Audi With 3 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Land Rover higher than Audi.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque higher (6 out of 10) than the Audi Q5 Sportback (4). This means the Range Rover Evoque produces up to 12.1 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Q5 Sportback every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the Q5 Sportback.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Range Rover Evoque’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Q5 Sportback:

Suspension and Handling

The Range Rover Evoque offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Q5 Sportback’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For better maneuverability, the Range Rover Evoque’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the Q5 Sportback’s (38 feet vs. 38.7 feet).

Chassis

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 pounds less than the Audi Q5 Sportback.

The Range Rover Evoque is 1 foot shorter than the Q5 Sportback, making the Range Rover Evoque easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Towing

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Evoque uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Q5 Sportback.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Evoque has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Q5 Sportback only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors costs extra on the Q5 Sportback.

Compared to traditional radio, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque’s standard SiriusXM satellite radio provides an unmatched listening experience. Its extensive coverage guarantees consistent, crystal-clear reception across the continental U.S., and access to over 100 channels dedicated to a multitude of genres, including music, news, sports, talk shows, and comedy, many with only limited commercial breaks. Satellite radio costs extra on the Q5 Sportback.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Q5 Sportback Premium Plus/Prestige offers wireless charging.

Economic Advantages

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Range Rover Evoque is less expensive to operate than the Q5 Sportback because it costs $118 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Range Rover Evoque than the Q5 Sportback, including $415 less for a water pump, $189 less for a muffler, $163 less for a starter, $171 less for a timing belt/chain and $132 less for a power steering pump.
