Safety

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and the new Q5 Sportback have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Land Rover vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. With 61 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Land Rover higher than Audi.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Land Rover vehicles are more reliable than Audi With 3 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Land Rover higher than Audi.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the new Q5 Sportback.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Range Rover Evoque’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the new Q5 Sportback:

Tires and Wheels

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Evoque offers optional 21-inch wheels. The new Q5 Sportback’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Range Rover Evoque has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the new Q5 Sportback; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Range Rover Evoque’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the new Q5 Sportback’s (38 feet vs. 38.7 feet).

Chassis

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 pounds less than the Audi new Q5 Sportback.

The Range Rover Evoque is 1 foot, 1.6 inches shorter than the new Q5 Sportback, making the Range Rover Evoque easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque amounts to more than styling. The Range Rover Evoque has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .33 Cd. That is lower than the new Q5 Sportback (.35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Range Rover Evoque get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The front step up height for the Range Rover Evoque is .3 inches lower than the new Q5 Sportback (18.7” vs. 19”). The Range Rover Evoque’s rear step up height is 1.2 inches lower than the new Q5 Sportback’s (18.5” vs. 19.7”).

Towing

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Evoque uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The new Q5 Sportback doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Evoque has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the new Q5 Sportback only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The Range Rover Evoque has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the new Q5 Sportback.
