For enhanced safety, the front and second-row seat shoulder belts of the Land Rover Discovery have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Porsche Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the Discovery and the Cayenne Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Discovery has 5.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the Cayenne Coupe E-Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (23.8 vs. 18.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Land Rover Discovery higher (6 out of 10) than the Porsche Cayenne Coupe (2 to 4). This means the Discovery produces up to 27.7 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Cayenne Coupe every 15,000 miles.

The Discovery offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Cayenne Coupe; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which has mileage and speed limitations, or roadside assistance and a tow-truck.

The front and rear suspension of the Discovery uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Cayenne Coupe, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Discovery’s wheelbase is 1.1 inches longer than on the Cayenne Coupe (115.1 inches vs. 114 inches).

For greater off-road capability the Discovery has a 3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe (11.2 vs. 8.2 inches), allowing the Discovery to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Discovery’s minimum ground clearance is 1.7 inches higher than on the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupe (11.2 vs. 9.5 inches).

The Discovery has standard seating for 7 passengers; the Cayenne Coupe can only carry up to 5.

The Discovery has 1.2 inches more front headroom, 1.3 inches more front shoulder room, .7 inches more rear headroom and 3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Cayenne Coupe.

Flexibility is maximized at the game, campground or a drive-in theatre in the Discovery when its optional tailgating rear seats are deployed, allowing people to sit facing out of the liftgate. (Do not use while vehicle is in motion.) The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer tailgating seats.

The Discovery’s cargo area provides more volume than the Cayenne Coupe.

Pressing a button automatically lowers or raises the Discovery’s second and third row seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

Maximum trailer towing in the Porsche Cayenne Coupe is limited to 7716 pounds. The Discovery offers up to a 8200 lbs. towing capacity.

The Discovery has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

If the windows are left open on the Discovery the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Cayenne Coupe can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Discovery’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Cayenne Coupe’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Discovery has a standard rear wiper. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Optional air conditioned front and second row seats keep the Discovery’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.
